An easy way to get business-owner clients to look at their documents
Your clients’ estate documents and business agreements were usually written by different people, years apart. Send them the checkup. They get a plain result and three questions to bring to you, not a list of things to fix on their own.
Tools to send a client
What we do
- Read the client’s agreements, policies and estate documents side by side
- Put numbers on the gaps: buyout funding, liquidity, equalization
- Send the questions to you, in writing, for your decision
- Coordinate insurance and planning once you’ve set the direction
What we don’t
- Draft documents or give legal advice
- Prepare returns or give tax advice
- Tell your client their plan is deficient
- Go around you: you stay the client’s attorney or CPA
How an introduction works
You send the client a link, or introduce them to Greg directly.
Greg reviews the documents with the client and writes up the open questions.
The questions come back to you. You decide what changes; we coordinate the rest.
[Referral and compensation terms, if any, as reviewed by compliance.]
Your own checkup link, with your name on it
Send it in a year-end letter, a tax-season email or after a client meeting. Clients see that the checkup came from you.
“Shared by [your firm]” at the top of the checkup and the result.
Their three questions, sent to you when a client chooses to share their result.
A ready-to-send email and a one-page PDF for your client newsletter.
A lunch-and-learn for your team on buy-sells after Connelly. [CPE credit, if offered.]
